At a demonstration against the government cutback in Dorchester on 12 March, Richard Denton-White of Fair Votes for Dorset met and had a chat with Billy Bragg. Having explained what Fair Votes for DOrset were trying to achieve, Billy confirmed that he would attend our events during April and May when he is available.

Our events listings will be amended when we know which events he will be able to attend.

I would like to point out to this will not resolve 5 issues which could be enhanced even more so

    1) the west lothian question
    2) That more people voted for right of centre parties in European elections ie Tory, UKIP, BNP in England then the left combined. Again this wont be no different to AV
    3) If people dont use numbers ie just pick 1 in the majority of cases. AV is no different to FPTP so whats the point.
    4) could vote BNP for example and get my vote counted 3 times ie say i list BNP then UKIP then TOry and no one else i can get 3 chances.
    5) No proof it will improve turnout. What makes Australia also different . They have compulsory voting unlike UK.

    Note i didnt mention costs.

I know UKIP Leader is saying yes but only because he hopes PR will happen which it wont.

but then im not a robot and dont just agree with everything a leader says of any party and use my mind to make a decision/

      1) We would agree that it is unfair that the 3 devolved nations can vote on English only issues whilst the reverse is not true, but this referendum is nothing to do with that. We need MPs to bring pressure to bear for a fairer system in that respect and AV could help to make your MP more accountable to thier constituents.
      2) European elections are different from UK Parliamentary elections. People have different wishes for each so whatever the vote mix during European elections this is irrelevant for UK Parliamentary elections. Despite misinformation put out by the ‘No’ campaign, you cannot predict what will happen under the AV system, as people have more choice.
      3) You have the choice whether to include second and third choices on your ballot under AV, which is what it is about – giving electors real choice of they want to take it.
      4) It is nonsense to say some votes count more than others under the AV system. The second and third choices etc are only counted when the top choice has less than 50% of the vote, so if you have voted for the top choice then you have already influenced result positively. The second and third choices are only used to bring a candidate above the 50% figure, which means that they will have recieved positive votes from at least 50% of those that voted.
      5) No one can guarantee to improve turnout, but if you give the electors the opportunuty for their vote to actually mean something as it more likely to under AV, they may be more likely to vote than under the current system.

Go on, change your mind and vote Yes later this week!
